pipeSTEAM is a non-profit organisation ran by a team that enjoys education and values the spaces out there across the world that gives us an opportunity to study outside of the general education sector which is why we are setting up our own mobile museum called 'Moss on the Rocks'.
We say mobile because we want to bring our museum to the public. So far, we have been running workshops at different festivals across the UK whereby we share the core museum principles through offering an educational space, open to the public as an opportunity to explore, learn and have fun.
At pipeSTEAM we have been focusing on sustainable workshops e.g. the history of creating paints using rocks, leading to conversation about petrology and how polarising microscopes are used to identify minerals. We have polarising microscopes that were donated to us by the University of Liverpool which have become one of our great assets as they are fascinating and people, including ourselves, love watching the changes in colour and so as you can imagine, conversation then switches towards the human eye.
We have built an eye model that mimics how the eye functions, then we investigate how humans see colour and how filters change this. Finally, we’ll draw back to making paints and being creative however the great part to these workshops is that they can be adapted to suit multiple audiences, from young children, through to the elderly, those who are neurodivergent, alongside those who may have a disability or are living with illnesses such as Alzheimer's.
We want to share our love and passion for education, research and development by travelling with our museum, with the hope to begin outreach programmes so we can support social inclusion and cultural development within our own communities.
